Angelissa Untalan
Edmonton, Alberta
I have been a ministry leader since 1995, and served as a lay mission worker for the youth and young adult ministries of Couples for Christ, an international Catholic lay ecclesial movement, for almost 10 years. Though my diploma was in Marketing Management the transition was a blessed journey since in ministry I became involved in promoting Christ.
The call to ministry in spiritual direction was not my initial interest but in the search for God’s next plan for me after a mission trip in Africa this option came to me through my spiritual mentor. I had wanted to become a counsellor, and God wanted me to take a different route as He did before. I now have a Certificate in Spiritual Direction from the Spiritual Direction Training program from the Haden Institute. I have a background in basic counselling skills from ICS Canada as well as peer-to-peer pastoral counselling provided in my formation as a missionary. I am an active member of my parish church, St. Joseph’s Basilica, here in Edmonton, Alberta serving as a Eucharistic minister and as a lector.
I have traveled far and wide, blessed with many varied experiences and lessons from both ministry work and academic studies. I am passionate about writing and music; I like solitude, nature, learning and listening to people’s stories. I participate in and enjoy both liturgical and contemporary worship. I cherish the contemplative practice of Lectio Divina, silence, journaling, and breath prayer. I am a work-in-progress, as well as work of God’s grace.
I attend my own spiritual direction sessions, and it has definitely enriched my life in ways that have surprised me and thus inspired me to accompany others towards a path to union with God. This ministry is my gift in gratitude to Him.
